Sir David Lee Pearson CBE (born February 4, 1974 ) is a British para dressage rider .

Life

Lee Pearson is the youngest of Lynda and Dave Pearson's three sons. Pearson was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita . He was operated on fifteen times in his childhood. It first gained public attention in 1980 when it received the Children of Courage Award and was presented by Margaret Thatcher at 10 Downing Street . Lee Pearson first attended a special school at Cheddleton but, thanks to the efforts of his parents, was able to switch to a mainstream school at the age of nine.

He received his first mount, a donkey named Sally , from his parents as a child, as he could not move his knees and ankles and therefore, like his older brothers, could not ride a BMX bike. At the age of nine he received a pony as a Christmas present, and at the age of 15 he bought a former racing horse. The interest in horses ran in the family; Lee Pearson's great-grandfather had already been considered an expert on these animals. Pearson worked in a supermarket until the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta gave him the idea to devote himself entirely to the rider . His best horses include the Blue Circle Boy , also known as Gus, and the Golden Gentleman . Pearson now has his own horse breeding.

Sporting successes

Lee Pearson is assigned to the Grade II competition class (referred to as Grade Ib until 2016).

At the Paralympics in Sydney (2000) , Athens (2004) and Hong Kong (2008) , he won the maximum possible number of nine gold medals. At his “home game” in London (2012) he only won gold medals in the team competition, in the individual scores there was a silver and a bronze medal. Four years later in Rio de Janeiro he was not part of the British team, but won silver in the championship test and his eleventh Paralympic gold in the freestyle. In addition, he achieved fourteen world championships and five European championships.

Pearson also competes against non-disabled competitors and won here, for example, in Hickstead at the national level. He was named BBC Midlands Sports Personality of the Year and received the Sportsman of 2004 Award from the Daily Telegraph and numerous other awards. Due to his sporting success, he was accepted as a member of the Order of the British Empire in 2001, made an officer in 2005 and a commander in 2009. In 2017, he was appointed Knight Bachelor .
