The 12th Snowboard World Championships took place from March 9th to 17th, 2017 in the Sierra Nevada in Spain . They were held at the same time as the Freestyle Skiing World Championships , so after 2015 there was for the second time a "Double World Championship" of freestyle skiing and snowboarding .

The FIS awarded the competition to the only candidate on June 5, 2012 at its congress in Kangwonland ( South Korea ).

The 1996 Alpine World Ski Championships had already taken place in the ski area ; The 2015 Winter Universiade was also planned in Granada , about 30  km away . At the beginning of the 2013 season, the Sulayr snow park was rebuilt.
