Liu Jiayu ( Chinese  刘佳宇 , Pinyin Liú Jiāyǔ , born September 17, 1992 in Hegang ) is a Chinese snowboarder . She starts in the halfpipe discipline .

Career

Liu first appeared in January 2007 at the Snowboard World Championships in Arosa . There she took 23rd place. In March 2007, she competed in her first World Cup races in Calgary and achieved places two and three. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season she won the European Cup in Saas-Fee . In February 2008 she won her first World Cup in Sungwoo and Calgary. Furthermore, she came in fourth three times during the season and at the end of the season reached 12th place in the overall World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. After fourth place at the World Cup in Cardrona and second place at the Burton New Zealand Open in the Snow Park at the beginning of the 2008/09 season, she won three World Cups and finished second twice. She won the gold medal at the season highlight of the 2009 Snowboard World Championships in Gangwon . At the end of the season she came fourth in the overall World Cup and first place in the Halfpipe World Cup. The following season he finished second at the Burton New Zealand Open and won her sixth World Cup in Cardrona . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she was fourth. The following year she won the bronze medal at the 2011 World Snowboard Championships in La Molina . In February 2011 she won the World Cup in Yabuli . In the 2012/13 season she came in the top ten three times in the World Cup. She finished second in Sierra Nevada and won in Park City . At the end of the season, she reached second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. She finished ninth at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, she won the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge . At the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen , she came fourth. In February 2016, she came second in the World Cup in Sapporo . The following month, she finished 11th at the Burton US Open in Vail and finished fourth in the Halfpipe World Cup. In the 2016/17 season she took second place at the World Cup in Copper Mountain and in Pyeongchang , finishing ninth in the Freestyle World Cup and third in the Halfpipe World Cup. She finished fifth at the Winter X Games 2017 . In February 2017 she won the gold medal at the Winter Asian Games 2017 in Sapporo. She came seventh at the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada . In the 2017/18 season, she came third in the Freestyle World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup with World Cup victories in Copper Mountain and Laax . At the end of January 2018 she was sixth at the Winter X Games in Aspen. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, she won the silver medal in the halfpipe behind the American Chloe Kim . She took fourth place at the Winter X Games 2019 . In the 2019/20 season she achieved three third places and one second and first place each, fourth place in the Freestyle World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. She also won the Winter Dew Tour in Copper Mountain.
