Vail is a location in Eagle County , Colorado .
The ski resort is located in one of the largest ski areas in the United States , which is known for the "back bowls" (giant deep snow basins). In 1962 the first gondola lift was built using the Bell / Wallmannsberger system. The Alpine World Ski Championships took place here in 1989 , 1999 and 2015 . The first World Beer Cup , the largest beer competition in the world , was also held here in 1996 . Vail has long been the largest ski resort in the United States, but since the merger of Park City and Canyons in Utah, Vail is only second.
About 60 km west of Vail is Eagle County Airport with daily connections to Denver International Airport . Depending on the season there are flights e.g. B. to Chicago or New York . Highway I-70 runs through the town .
