Michael "Mike" Testwuide (* 5. February 1987 in Vail , Colorado ) is an American ice hockey player with South Korean citizenship, in the since 2018 Daemyung Killer Whales in the Asia League Ice Hockey on the position of right winger plays. He has been eligible to play for the South Korean national ice hockey team since 2015 .

Career

Mike Testwuide began his career in the junior team of the Pike Peak Miners. In 2004 he moved to the United States Hockey League , the most important junior division in the United States, and played there for two years for the Waterloo Black Hawks. He then attended Colorado College and played for its ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , one of the divisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He was elected to the WCHA's All Academic Team in 2009 and 2010. From 2010 to 2013 he played for the Adirondack Phantoms , the Philadelphia Flyers ' farm team , in the American Hockey League . Towards the end of the 2012/13 season he went to league rivals Abbotsford Heat . In 2013 he ventured to Asia and has since played for Anyang Halla in the Asia League Ice Hockey , with which he won the main round of the league in 2015, but lost the playoff final against the Tōhoku Free Blades from Japan. In the following year, the victory in the playoffs succeeded by a victory in the final series against HK Sakhalin . As the top scorer and most valuable player, he himself made a significant contribution and was also elected to the Asia League First Team. After a year at High1 , he has also been playing in the Asia League for the Daemyung Killer Whales since 2018 .

International

Testwuide was naturalized in South Korea in 2015 and was entitled to play for the South Korean national ice hockey team because he had already spent two full seasons with a South Korean team and had previously not recorded any international appearances for the US national ice hockey team. As part of the 2015 World Cup , he made his debut for the Asians in Division I. As a player with the best plus / minus balance of the tournament and second best scorer behind his teammate Michael Swift (together with his compatriots Kim Ki-sung and Kim Sang- wook and the Estonian Andrei Makrov ), he contributed significantly to the promotion from the B to the A group of Division I. At the 2016 World Cup he played in the A group of Division I.

At the Winter Asian Games 2017 he finished second with the South Koreans behind Kazakhstan . He also played for South Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympics in his own country.
