Kim Ki-sung (born May 14, 1985 in Seoul ) is a South Korean ice hockey player who has been under contract with Anyang Halla in the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2014 . His younger brother Kim Sang-wook is also a South Korean national ice hockey player.
Career
Kim Ki-sung began his career as a hockey player on the Kyungsung High School team . At the age of 19, he moved to Yonsei University for four years . Through his appearances in the national team, the Anyang Halla , one of the two South Korean teams in the Asia League Ice Hockey, became aware of him. Both in 2010 and 2011 he was able to win the championship with his team. He then moved to the US Central Hockey League for the Tulsa Oilers . There he did not get a chance and only played three times. Logically, he left the Oklahoma team after a year and joined the Finnish second division HC Keski-Uusimaa in 2012 together with his brother . In 2013 he returned to South Korea and played one season for Daemyung Sangmu , the newly formed third South Korean team in the Asia League Ice Hockey. He then left the team and returned to his previous team, Anyang Halla. With his team, he was able to win the main round of the Asia League in 2015 and was voted the most valuable player in the main round himself . The playoff final, however, was smoothly lost with three defeats to the Tōhoku Free Blades from Japan. In 2016, 2017 and 2018 he was able to win his titles three to five in the Asia League with Anyang.
International
Kim Ki-sung has already participated in the U-18 World Cup for South Korea. After he was noticed in Division II of the U-20 World Cup in 2005 with eleven goals in five games, he was nominated for the subsequent Men's World Cup 2005 (also Division II) and made his debut there in the senior national team of the Asian country . After his team missed promotion the following year , although Kim played an excellent tournament with ten goals in five games, the South Koreans managed to jump into Division I at the 2007 World Cup . In 2008 , Kim and the South Korean team suffered immediate relegation. But just a year later , Kim's six goals contributed to the rise. This time things went better for the Asians, who managed to stay in Division I for the first time in the 2010 title fights with a 5-2 in the final game against Croatia , to which Kim also contributed a goal . Kim himself was the second best preparer behind the Slovenian Žiga Jeglič and the third best scorer behind Jeglič and his compatriot Rok Tičar . In 2011 and 2012 , Kim again represented his country at the World Championships. After rising 3-2 against hosts Poland , South Korea played for the first time in the A group of Division I at the following World Cup in 2013. There, Kim was third-best scorer with four goals and two assists behind Kazakhs Startschenko and Italian Iannone , two players who rose with their teams in the top group of the world championships. He scored two of his four goals in the game against Hungary , which the South Koreans were able to win after a 1: 4 deficit after two thirds with 5: 4 after penalty shootouts. He converted the decisive penalty. He also played there in 2014 , but had to accept relegation to the B group of Division I with the South Korean team at the tournament in Goyang . In 2015 he contributed four assists and four goals each to the Asians' promotion to the A group of Division I. There they won two wins against Poland and Japan at the 2016 World Cup , which was enough to keep them up. At the 2017 World Cup , when he was voted the best player on his team, he was promoted to the top division for the first time with the South Koreans by finishing second behind Austria . There he played at the 2018 World Cup , but had to accept the immediate relegation with his team.
