Florian Seiler

Florian Seiler is a German classical archaeologist .

Life

Florian Seiler studied classical archeology and was born in 1979 at the University of Erlangen with a thesis on The Greek Tholos. PhD studies on the development, typology and function of artistic round buildings . In 1979/80 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) for his work, which allowed him to travel to the Mediterranean . Since 1992 he has been responsible for the editing of the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute and during this time also published the volume on Casa degli Amorini dorati as part of the research project Houses in Pompeii . He later moved to the headquarters of the DAI in Berlin, where he headed the editorial department until his retirement in 2014 and was thus responsible for all publications of the DAI at the editorial level.

Seiler's main research interests include the ancient site of Pompeii , in particular Insula 16, Regio VI . In addition, he deals with the sanctuary of Hera Lakinia in Croton and the reconstruction of the ancient cultural landscapes in the Sarno basin . Seiler is a corresponding member of the DAI.
