Žiga Jeglič (born February 24, 1988 in Kranj , SR Slovenia ) is a Slovenian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven since the 2020/21 season .

Career

Žiga Jeglič completed his training as a hockey player at HK MK Bled , for whose U20 juniors he was active in the top Slovenian league of this age group from 2003 to 2007. He also played for Bled's senior team in the fourth-class Carinthian regional league from 2005 to 2007. In 2007 he was hired by HK Jesenice and recommended himself with good performance with the partner team HD mladi Jesenice in the Slovenian ice hockey league for the fighting team that has played in the Austrian Erste Bank ice hockey league since 2006 . With Jesenice he was Slovenian champion in 2010 and 2011 .

In the 2010/11 season he formed together with Rok Tičar and Robert Sabolič a storm formation that despite their youth (none of the players was older than 22 at the start of the season) grew into one of the most important ranks of their club, with all three players in the front Rows of the top scorer rating were to be found. After the end of the season in Austria, he spent the rest of the season again with Jesenice in the Slovenian ice hockey league and won the fourth national championship title in a row with his team. In May 2011 Jeglič was signed by Södertälje SK from HockeyAllsvenskan , with whom he signed a contract for two years.

After playing for Porin Ässät in the Finnish Liiga from summer 2013 , he had been under contract with ERC Ingolstadt in the German Ice Hockey League since December 2013 and won the German championship with it in 2014. After this success he was obliged by HC Slovan Bratislava from the Continental Hockey League , where he should play again with Rok Tičar. In 2017 he switched to league competitor Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod , which he left in October 2017 and hired at Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk .

After the season, the Slovenian moved back to his ex-club in Bratislava , which he left after only three scorer points in 32 games at the end of the season. In the 2019/20 season, Jeglič was hired by HC Zlín in the Czech Republic in the Extraliga , but after only five games he was loaned to league rivals BK Mladá Boleslav , where he earned 20 scorer points in another 33 games.

In July 2020, Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven announced that the striker had signed a two-year contract.

International

For Slovenia , Jeglič took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2006 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2007 and 2008 in Division I. At the 2010 World Cup , he made his debut for the senior national team in Division I. With this he was promoted to the top division, where he was elected the best striker in Group B with a total of eleven points (two goals and nine assists). He was also the top scorer and the best assist provider. He then represented his country at the 2011 , 2013 , 2015 and 2017 World Championships in the top division . In 2012 and 2016 he and his team took part in Division I, each time being promoted to the top division. He also represented his colors during qualifying tournament for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and the Games in Sochi , where the Slovenes occupied a surprising seventh place, even. Also in the Olympic qualifiers for the 2018 Winter Games he succeeded with the Slovenians to qualify for the games this time in Pyeongchang . There he played three games for the Slovenian squad, but was tested positive for the bronchodilator Fenoterol in the doping test on February 19, 2018 and then had to leave the Olympic village. He was later banned from the International Court of Justice for eight months.
