Maxime Fortunus (born July 28, 1983 in La Prairie , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing for the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven in the German Ice Hockey League since 2018 . His cousin Patrice Bernier was also a hockey player in his youth and is currently a soccer player .

Career

In his youth, Fortunus first played for the Riverains du Collège Charles Lemoyne . In the entry draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , the Canadian was the second round election of the Drakkar de Baie-Comeau in 1999 , where he played until 2003 before he was allowed to gain his first experience as a professional player with the Houston Eros and the Louisiana IceGators .

From then on, Fortunus began his career in the American Hockey League . He was on the ice for the Houston Eros, Manitoba Moose , Texas Stars , Iowa Wild, and Springfield Thunderbirds . In the meantime, he also played nine games for the Dallas Stars in the highest North American ice hockey league , the National Hockey League .

Maxime Fortunus kept moving to various clubs as a free agent . After his 15-year career in the American Hockey League, the defender moved - also as a free agent - to Germany to the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven , where he signed a one-year contract. In February 2019 it became known that Fortunus had extended its contract for another two years in Bremerhaven .
