Main Street in Red Cliff |
Red Cliff , also Redcliff , is a small community in the US state of Colorado - about 150 km west of Denver in the Sawatch Range on the Eagle River . The parish is part of Eagle County and was also the seat of the county until 1921. It was founded in 1879 during the "silver boom" by Leadville miners who came over the Tennessee Pass in anticipation of greater prospects of success . The name Red Cliff comes from the red quartzite rocks that surround the place.
Today's Red Cliff consists of several old houses and converted caravans in the river valleys of the Eagle River. Some of the numerous old wooden buildings along the main street have recently been modernized for winter sports tourism. For cross-country skiing, Red Cliff is a popular access point to the Shrine Pass, for which there is a shuttle service from the Vail ski resort .
