Katie Uhlaender (born July 17, 1984 in Vail , Colorado ) is an American skeleton pilot .

Career

Katie Uhlaender has been running skeleton since 2002 and won the America's Cup in 2004 after four victories this season . She has been taking part in the Skeleton World Cup since the 2004/05 season . In Lake Placid , she achieved her first podium finish with second place in her first season. At the 2005 World Cup , she was fifth. The following season she was fourth in the overall World Cup and achieved two third places in Calgary and Lake Placid. In the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin reached on the track of Cesana Torinese Ranked 6th

Her big break came in the 2006/07 season . In November she won her first World Cup race in Calgary, followed by four more victories of the season. In the overall World Cup she won the ranking by superiority. At the 2007 World Championships in St. Moritz , she won the bronze medal. She also won the overall standings in the 2007/08 season . She won four of the eight races of the season and took two more podiums. At the 2008 World Cup she won silver in the individual and bronze in the team. The 2008/09 season was less successful . She took second place and was third in the overall standings. At the World Championships in Lake Placid she was seventh in the individual, but repeated the bronze medal of the previous year in the team. In the 2009/10 season she could not achieve a podium and was seventh in the overall classification. At the Olympic Games in Vancouver , she reached 11th place.

Handicapped by injuries, Uhlaender was able to start the 2010/11 season late. She completed several races in the America's Cup and Intercontinental Cup and only at the end of the season two World Cup races , in which she was fifth and tenth. At the World Championships in Königssee , she was ninth both in the individual and in the team. In the 2011/12 season she reached another World Cup podium and was eleventh in the overall World Cup. At the World Championships in Lake Placid she was world champion ahead of Mellisa Hollingsworth and Elizabeth Yarnold and also won the gold medal in the team competition. In the 2012/13 season she achieved two wins and two second places in the World Cup and she was third in the overall ranking. She finished seventh at the 2013 Skeleton World Championship .

In the 2013-14 season , Katie Uhlaender was impaired by the effects of a concussion and hip and ankle problems. Nevertheless, she finished fourth at the 2014 Olympic Games of Sochi , but two operations had to undergo as a result, it is why in the season 2014/15 paused. After taking part in weightlifting competitions in earlier years , she began track cycling during her injury break and finished fifth in the national championships in team sprints. In the 2015/16 season she returned to the sport of skeleton and started the winter with victories in the Intercontinental Cup and North American Cup. In the Intercontinental Cup she took part in all eight races of the season, achieved six podium places and thus won the overall standings from Lanette Prediger and Anna Fernstädt .

Katie Uhlaender lives in Breckenridge , Colorado. She is the daughter of baseball player Ted Uhlaender, who died in 2009, and runs a cattle ranch in Atwood , Kansas .
