Mellisa Hollingsworth (born October 4, 1980 in Lacombe , Alberta ; formerly married Mellisa Hollingsworth-Richards ) is a former Canadian skeleton pilot .
Career
Mellisa Hollingsworth made her debut in Koenigssee in December 1996 in the Skeleton World Cup and came in second behind Steffi Hanzlik . She achieved further good placements several times in the following years. In the overall World Cup she was seventh in 1997, fifth in 1999 and 2000, sixth in 2003 and eighth in 2004 and 2005. At the Skeleton World Championship in Igls in 2000 , Hollingsworth won the silver medal behind Steffi Hanzlik at the first women's skeleton world championships. In 2003 in Nagano , she finished fifth.
It was not until the beginning of the 2005/06 season in Calgary and later in the season in Königssee that she was able to win World Cup races. She finished the season as the overall World Cup winner, having achieved podium finishes in all seven races of the season. At the 2006 Olympics , she won the bronze medal behind Maya Pedersen-Bieri and Shelley Rudman . In 2006/07 she paused and took part in the World Cup again in 2007/08 , where she came second and third and was third in the overall ranking; at the world championships she was sixth. In the 2008/09 season she was on the podium four times and was seventh in the overall World Cup, at the 2009 World Championships she was again sixth in the singles and fourth with Team Canada I.
In the 2009/10 Olympic season , Hollingsworth won the overall World Cup for the second time. In Lake Placid and Koenigssee, she won two of the eight races of the season, and was second twice and third three times. This meant that she only missed a place on the podium in the Altenberg race . She drove it to the Olympic Games in Vancouver as a medal hope of the domestic audience . After three of the four runs she was promisingly second, but fell back to fifth after a faulty last run.
In the 2010/11 season she was third in the overall World Cup ranking. She got three podiums but couldn't win a race. At the 2011 Skeleton World Championship , she won bronze in both team and individual competitions. In 2011/12 she won two more World Cup races and finished fourth overall. At the 2012 World Cup , she was runner- up behind Katie Uhlaender and won bronze again in the team. In 2013 she was sixth in the overall World Cup and fifth in the World Cup . In 2014 , she only started in four of the eight World Cup races, which brought her to 17th place. She took part in the Olympic Games for the third and last time in 2014 and said goodbye to skeleton with eleventh place, with the second-fastest time in the last run.
Hollingsworth was five times Canadian champion , four times runner-up and one third place between 1996 and 2011 , making her country's record champion.
