Skeleton World Championship 2008

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 20th Skeleton World Championship took place from February 18 to 24, 2008 in Altenberg . It was part of the FIBT world championship, in addition to competitions for men and women in skeleton , the world championships in three bobsleigh classes and a team competition with two bobsleighs and two skeletons each were held.

The German athletes use the home advantage on the difficult Altenberg track and won two of the three disciplines and four of nine medals. The third gold went to Kristan Bromley, the reigning European champion and winner of the overall World Cup , who also won a gold medal in this sport for his home country for the first time and the first medal for a male Brit in skeleton. Anja Huber became double world champion after her victory at the European Championship. This makes her the first double world champion and first German world champion since Diana Sartor in 2004.
