Skeleton World Championship 2017
The 26th Skeleton World Championship took place from February 13 to 26, 2017, parallel to the 2017 Bobsleigh World Championship on the Königssee artificial ice rink .
Award
The Sliding Center Sanki in Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi , built for the 2014 Winter Olympics , was originally planned as the venue . The Russian city prevailed against the applications from Altenberg , Lake Placid (USA) and Whistler (Canada) at the meeting of the World Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association IBSF in Gdynia in June 2013 . Based on the findings of the McLaren report on systematic doping in Russia published on December 9, 2016, the world association withdrew the country from hosting both events a few days later. Both Latvia and South Korea had announced in advance that they would not participate in a World Cup in Sochi. On December 19, 2016, the IBSF announced that the title fights had been awarded to Königssee .
