Kim Meylemans (born March 7, 1996 ) is a German-Belgian skeleton pilot . After participating in the Winter Youth Olympic Games for Germany in 2012 , she took part in the Winter Olympic Games for Belgium in 2018 .

Career

After playing soccer in her childhood and youth , she started playing skeleton in 2009 and in 2011 she took part in the German championships for the first time and finished 13th in Königssee . At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, she started as one of two Germans in the European qualifying races for the Winter Youth Olympic Games . In both races in Innsbruck and in both races in Winterberg , she finished second behind her team-mate Jacqueline Lölling and qualified for the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games . Before participating in these games, she started on December 30, 2011 at the German championships 2012 on the Winterberg Hochsauerland bobsleigh track and finished in seventh place.

On December 9, 2011 she made her debut in the Skeleton European Cup and finished seventh in the races in Altenberg . A day later, she finished sixth in the second race on the Altenberg sled and bobsled run . On January 8, 2020, she celebrated her first victory in Innsbruck . She won the bobsleigh Igls artificial ice rink ahead of British Elizabeth Yarnold and Sophia Griebel from Germany. At the end of the season she finished 10th in the overall standings of the European Cup with 191 points, although she only took part in four out of eight races. On January 21, she took part in the skeleton competition at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck for the DOSB and came in fifth

Before the 2012/13 season, she finished eleventh at the German championships in Altenberg . In the 2012/13 season she started in the European Skeleton Cup and on November 24, 2012 , she finished third in a German triple victory in Königssee behind Lena Joch and Sarah Sartor . Also on January 12, 2013, she took third place behind her countrywoman Maxi Just and the Russian Elina Galijewa at the two competitions in Innsbruck , where only one was driven . At the end of the season she finished fifth in the overall ranking of the European Cup with 335 points. She also made her debut in the North American Cup on March 7, 2013 and finished seventh in the race in Lake Placid and a day later she finished seventh again.

Before the 2013/14 season, she finished ninth in the German championship in Königssee and then started in the 2013/14 European Cup . On November 23, 2013, she finished third in the German triple victory behind Tina Hermann and Maxi Just at the Europa Cup race in Altenberg . On December 17, 2013, she was able to achieve her second victory in the European Cup in Winterberg , beating her teammates Maxi Just and Anna Fernstädt . Her last podium place of the season was on January 11, 2014 on the Königssee artificial ice rink when she finished third behind Anna Fernstädt and Maxi Just. In the overall ranking of the European Cup, she took third place with 396 points behind her two teammates Anna Fernstädt and Maxi Just.

For the 2014/15 season, Kim Meylemans switched from BSD to the Belgian association and now lives in Neeroeteren, a district of the city of Maaseik in Limburg . She made her debut for Belgium on November 21, 2014 in the European Skeleton Cup . At the competition in Lillehammer , she finished behind Kendall Wesenberg from the USA and ahead of Anastassija Schlapak from Russia. A day later, in the second race, she again took second place, this time behind Russian Renata Chusina and ahead of Russian Anastassija Schlapak. A week later she made her debut in the Intercontinental Cup in Königssee and finished eighth on the Königssee artificial ice rink . On December 6, 2014, she achieved her best result in the Intercontinental Cup with fifth place in Winterberg . On January 22nd, 2014 she finished third at the European Cup in Innsbruck behind her former teammate Jacqueline Lölling and the Russian Anastassija Schlapak. At the end of the season, she finished eighth in the overall European Cup standings with 230 points, although she only took part in four of eight competitions. Thanks to her results in the season, she was able to qualify for the first time for the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships , which took place in 2015 on the Winterberg Hochsauerland bobsleigh track , and came 19th after four places.

Thanks to her performances from the previous season, Kim Meylemans was able to secure a quota place in the 2015/16 World Cup for the Belgian association and started directly at the first World Cup of the season in Altenberg on November 27, 2015 and was able to achieve a top ten on her debut with ninth place -To take ... place. At the end of the season she finished 13th in the overall World Cup with 960 points. She also qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and was nominated for the Games by the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee . After four runs, she finished 14th in the Olympic Sliding Center .

In the post-Olympic season 2018/19 Kim Meylemans competed in both the Intercontinental Cup and the World Cup . On November 23 and 24, 2018, she was able to equalize her best result in the Intercontinental Cup at the two competitions in Winterberg and took fifth place in the Veltins ice arena . On December 3, 2019, she took part in a skeleton junior world championship for the first time and secured the silver medal at the 2019 junior world championship in Königssee behind Anna Fernstädt from the Czech Republic and ahead of Ashleigh Fay Pittaway from the United Kingdom. At the end of the season she finished in the Intercontinental Cup, where she contested four of eight races with 344 points, 15th place and in the World Cup, where she completed seven of eight races, she finished 14th. At the end of the season, she took part in the 2019 World Championships in Whistler , finishing 20th after four runs in the Whistler Sliding Center .

After she could not achieve a top ten place in the previous season, Kim Meylemans took eighth place at the start of the season on December 7, 2019 in Lake Placid, a top ten result, which she won a week later in the second competition at the Olympia -Bob track Mount Van Hoevenberg could confirm with the eighth place.
