geography

The province of Limburg lies mainly west of the Meuse . In the area of the Maasplassen it borders on the Dutch province of Limburg , to which it belonged until the creation of Belgium in 1830, and on the Belgian provinces of Liège , Flemish Brabant and Antwerp . Its area is 2422 km².

As a result of reclassification in 1963, the area of today's municipality of Voeren is located as an exclave (south) east of the Belgian province of Limburg between the Dutch province of Limburg and the Belgian province of Liège, to which it belonged until then.

Districts

The province of Limburg is divided into three districts. These are in French as arrondissements , in Dutch as arrondissementen referred. Sometimes the term arrondissement is also used in German, although district is the official term.
