Nieuwerkerken ( Limburgish : Noërekirke ) is a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region with 6947 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It consists of the main town and the districts Binderveld , Kozen and Wijer .

Sint-Truiden is four kilometers south, Hasselt twelve kilometers northwest, Liège 36 kilometers southeast and Brussels about 57 kilometers west.

The next motorway exits are in the north at Hasselt on the A13 / E 313 or Diest on the A2 / E 314 and in the south at Tienen and Lincent on the A3 / E 40 .

The nearest regional train stations are in Hasselt, Sint-Truiden, Diest and Tienen .

Maastricht Aachen Airport and Liège Airport are the closest regional airports and Brussels National Airport near the capital Brussels is an international airport.
