Heusden-Zolder ( Limburgish : Heuze-Zolder ) is a municipality in Belgium , Limburg . Their total area is 53.2 km². It has 33,708 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).
The communities include Heusden, Zolder , Bolderberg, Boekt, Berkenbos, Lindeman and Eversel as well as the hamlets of Viversel and Voort.
Location and economy
The community is located 12 km north of Hasselt in the Kempen region in the Limburg area (Dutch Kempens steenkoolbekken). However, hard coal has not been mined since 1992. The motorway / from Brussels to Aachen runs through the municipality, as does the Albert Canal .
The tourism is an important economic factor. Furthermore Des many small commercial and industrial enterprises are located in Heusden-Zolder.
Attractions
In the southwest of the community in the hamlet Viversel, the castle Terlaemen, is the four-kilometer race circuit of Zolder (see Zolder ). Also motorcycle races are regularly held here. The world cycling road racing championship took place here in 2002.
The community is rich in forest and heather areas. Longer walks are possible here.
There are some old churches in Heusden-Zolder and many chapels, which are often beautifully situated . Most of the castles here are private domains and not open to the public. This also applies to the associated parks.

Town twinning
Heusden-Zolder is a twin town of the Sauerland town of Brilon and the north Hessian town of Bad Arolsen .
