Zolder
The place Zolder is part of the municipality Heusden-Zolder . The municipality is located in Limburg , Belgium .
Hard coal has been mined in Zolder for over 60 years : there was one of the seven mines in the Limburg hard coal district ('Steenkoolmijn van Zolder'). Production began in 1930, in 1964 the company merged with 'Steenkoolmijn van Houthalen' in Houthalen , and in 1992 the mine was the last of the Limburg mines to close.
Zolder brought the following districts and hamlets into the merger with Heusden in 1977 : Viversel to the west, Bolderberg to the south-west, Boekt, the Lindeman mining settlement north of the colliery and Voort to the east, where the colliery was located.
Attractions
One of the sights is the Circuit Zolder race track , where many championship races are held, mainly for the Belgian Belcar Championship and the Belgian Touring Car Championship. The main events are the 24 hours of Zolder.
