Peer is a town in the region Flanders in Belgium . It belongs to the province (administrative district) Limburg and is located about 80 km west of Mönchengladbach . The Dommel , a tributary of the Maas, has its source in the Wauberg district .
Pieter Brueghel
The district of Grote-Brogel is mentioned as one of the possible birthplaces of the Flemish painter Pieter Brueghel . Brueghel is said to have been born in the village of Brueghel not far from Brede or Breda . Grote-Brogel was and is still pronounced locally as Brögel; Brede and Breda are old ways of writing the neighboring town of Bree .
Kleine-Brogel military airfield
The Kleine Brogel military airfield of the Belgian Air Force and a NATO base with American soldiers are located in the Kleine Brogel district . Once a year, a "Spotterday" is organized on the base area, on which the base is open to visitors.

Since 1985, the 3-4 day international rhythm 'n' blues festival Blues Peer takes place in Peer every July .
