The Dommel in the Goorse Zeggen wetland near Heeze

The source of the Dommel is located south of the small Belgian town of Peer in the heather and moorland area of the Donderslagse Heide . The Dommel reaches the Dutch border at Valkenswaard via Overpelt and Neerpelt . In Eindhoven the Dommel flows through the city center and soon afterwards crosses under the Wilhelminakanal at Son en Breugel . In Boxtel , the Dommel is channeled past the eastern outskirts. Only a small part of the water remains in the former winding bed through the city. In the urban area of 's-Hertogenbosch , the Aa (4.6 m³ / s) and the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal flow into the Dommel, which by this point has reached an average water flow of around 14 m³ / s. From this point on the river is called Dieze . 6.5 kilometers further, the river flows into the Meuse (around 22 m³ / s).

Surname

At the time of the Romans, who ruled Belgium and the southern part of the Netherlands , the river was called Dutmala , from which the name Dommel developed.
