As Dieze today is called the under 6.5-kilometer section of the bottom with a water flow of about 22 m³ / s second-largest Dutch tributary of the Meuse in the province of Noord-Brabant . The name applies from the confluence of the main river Dommel with the smaller Aa in 's-Hertogenbosch .

The Binnendieze in 's-Hertogenbosch

Originally, Dieze or Diest was also the name of the largest left tributary of the Dommel, now called Run or Esschestroom . Some river arms below its confluence, especially in 's-Hertogenbosch, are therefore still called Binnendieze . The Dieze flows into the Meuse at Fort Crèvecoeur opposite Hedel .

The water flow of the Dieze and its tributaries is strongly influenced by the crossing canals. On the one hand, as the upper reaches of the Dieze, the Dommel loses water to the Wilhelminakanal, especially in winter ( the Maas can reach between 2 and 20 m³ / s at Geertruidenberg in winter ), and on the other hand, the Zuid-Willemsvaart and Drongelens canals affect 's-Hertogenbosch Canal the water flow, the former by supplying around 5 m³ / s Meuse water, the latter by discharging approximately the same amount to the Bergschen Maas near Waalwijk . The course of the river Dieze itself is part of the canal system for the first four kilometers and at the same time the port of 's-Hertogenbosch from the Maas.
