Boxtel ( listen ^{? / I} ) is a place and a municipality in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant . Boxtel is located on the Dommel in the middle of the triangle Tilburg , Eindhoven and 's-Hertogenbosch . This made Boxtel a transport hub early on.

The first mentions of Boxtel in history date back to the 11th century. After that, the glory of Boxtel was ruled for a long time by noble families such as the Van Horn, Van Cuyk , Van Merheym and Van Ranst families .

Stapelen Castle ( Dutch Kasteel Stapelen ) and the Sankt-Peters-Kirche (Dutch: Sint Petruskerk) are architectural monuments in Boxtel.

According to tradition, the miracle of the Holy Blood took place in Boxtel in the 14th century . The so-called blood procession still takes place every year on the first Sunday after Pentecost . The papal legate, Cardinal Pietro Pileo di Prata , had the event in Boxtel carefully investigated, recognized it as real and, by decree of June 25, 1380, allowed the pilgrimage there.

Since a municipal reorganization in 1996, the nearby Liempde belongs to Boxtel and part of Gemonde that belonged to Boxtel came to the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel .
