Alphen-Chaam [ ˌɑlfəˈχaːm ] ( ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant .
structure
The municipality consists of the villages of Alphen, the seat of the municipal administration, and Chaam , each with around 4200 inhabitants. The third largest village with about 1040 inhabitants is called Galder .
Alphen-Boshoven, Bavel (partly, see also: Breda ) Druisdijk, Geersbroek, Ginderdoor, Grazen, Heerstaien, Heikant, Het Sas, Hondseind, Houtgoor, Kalishoek, Klooster, Kwaalburg, Leg, Looneind, Meijsberg, Notsel, Rakens, Snijders- Chaam, Strijbeek, Terover, Ulvenhout (partially, see also: Breda), Venweg and 't Zand. All of these places - in the Brabant dialect: Herdgangen - have fewer than 350 inhabitants, some only consist of 5 to 10 farms.
Location and economy
Major cities nearby are Breda (the northwestern neighbor), Tilburg (the northeastern neighbor) and Turnhout ( Belgium ).
Many commuters who work in Breda or Tilburg live in the villages. Tourism (the municipality has a lot of forest and there are several campsites, some with swimming pools) is the main source of income for the local economy, although agriculture is not without its importance. Every year, two days after the end of the Tour de France , the traditional, folk festival- like cycle race De Acht van Chaam takes place in Chaam . It is the most important regular event in the church.
politics
In the last local election in March 2018, the CDA Christian Democrats won the election with a lead of 12 votes over the second strongest party, the Gemeenschapsbelangen Alphen. In the 2018–2022 legislative period, they form a coalition with all parties represented in the municipal council, a so-called all - party government .
