Zundert ( listen ^{? / I} ) is a municipality in the Netherlands in the province of Noord-Brabant with 21,629 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019).

Zundert is known as the birthplace of the painter Vincent van Gogh .

geography

Zundert is right on the border with Belgium , on the road from Breda to Antwerp . The municipality has an area of ​​119.84 km² and consists of the following districts: Zundert (residents 7520), Achtmaal (1680), Klein-Zundert (2580), Rijsbergen (6210) and Wernhout (2570).

Neighboring communities are Etten-Leur and Breda in the north, Hoogstraten (Belgium) in the east, Wuustwezel (Belgium) in the south, Kalmthout (Belgium) in the southwest and Essen (Belgium) and Rucphen in the west.

history

In 1812 a votive stone of the Germanic goddess Sandraudiga was found here .
