Jelle Nijdam (born August 16, 1963 in Zundert , the Netherlands ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Career

Nijdam was a professional from 1984 to 1996 and is the son of the amateur world champion in the 1961 single pursuit and 1964 Tour de France stage winner , Henk Nijdam .

Jelle Nijdam took part in the Tour of France ten times and was able to win a total of six stages between 1987 and 1991. In 1987 and 1988 he won the overall leader's yellow jersey for a total of three days . In addition to the stage successes in the Tour de France, the Dutchman also won one stage in the Vuelta a España , as well as the Amstel Gold Race , Paris-Tours and Paris-Brussels . In his career he was able to celebrate a total of 104 successes.

His nickname was Snelle Jelle ( dt . Fast Jelle ).

After the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, Nijdam became a professional with the Dutch team Kwantum Hallen .

After winning the overall at the Tour de Luxembourg , the Dutchman won the 1987 spring half classic Dwars door Vlaanderen and the prologue of the Tour de France , which meant that he one day in the yellow jersey went. By 1991, Nijdam had won five more Tour de France stages. Other victories include the Amstel Gold Race (1988), Paris – Tours (1989), Paris-Brussels (1989) and the Three Days of De Panne (1991). In 1992 he won the prologue of the Vuelta a España and rode in the leadership jersey for two days. His last great success came in 1995 with the second win at Quer durch Flanders. Nijdam was also able to win the Tour of the Netherlands three times in his career .
