Stefano Zanini (born January 23, 1969 in Varese ) is a former Italian cyclist and later sports director .

Zanini became a professional in 1991 with the Italian cycling team Italbonfica-Navigare , where he stayed for four years. The following year he achieved his first significant professional victory in the one-day race Coppa Sabatini . During his career he won numerous races, including two stages in the Giro d'Italia in 1994 and 2001 , the prestigious final stage of the Tour de France in 2000 and the classic Amstel Gold Race in 1996 and Paris-Brussels in 1998. He also finished third at Milano-Sanremo in 1995 and second in the Tour of Flanders in 1998.

He ended his career as an active player at Predictor-Lotto in 2007 , where he worked as a sporting director for one year in 2008. In the next few years he also worked in this role for various teams.

In 2013 the French Senate published an investigation report, according to which Zanini was not one of the 18 drivers who were positive for the doping agent EPO in urine samples tested using new testing methods at the 1998 Tour de France , but his name was on a list of twelve other drivers listed with suspicious values.
