The Intergiro rating of the Giro d'Italia was held for the first time at the Giro d'Italia in 1989 . The last time a winner was honored in this category was in 2005 .

The rating for the Intergiro was taken about halfway through each stage . In the first few years, the time it took each driver to get to the Intergiro was determined. In the last few years, the rating was mainly based on the placements at the Intergiro and only to a small extent on the times achieved. In the last year of the event, the Intergiro evaluation was purely a point evaluation.

Maglia Azzura

The leader of the Intergiro class wore the azure blue jersey Maglia Azzurra the following day . In 2006 the Maglia Azzurra was awarded to the leader of the combined classification. For this purpose, points were distributed after each stage for the best in the overall, points and mountain classification , as well as in the sprint classification “Gazzetta 110”. The best in the respective evaluation received 15 points, the 15th received one point. In this way, up to 60 points could be achieved in one day. The only winner of this ranking was Paolo Savoldelli . The leader in the mountain classification has been wearing the Maglia Azzurra since 2012 .
