Giro d'Italia 1997
The 80th Giro d'Italia was held in 22 stages from May 17th to June 8th 1997 and won by Ivan Gotti from Bergamo .
Last year's winner Pavel Tonkov led the tour until the start of the mountainous 14th stage, on which he was replaced by the stage winner Gotti. Previously, the co-driver Marco Pantani had already retired on the 8th stage after he fell after a collision with a dog.
