Giro d'Italia 1982
The 65th Giro d'Italia was held in 23 sections and 4004.5 kilometers from May 13th to June 6th 1982 and won by Frenchman Bernard Hinault . It was his second win on his second start. Of the 162 riders who started, 110 reached the finish in Turin . This edition of the Giro is the last one to date to have a length of over 4000 kilometers (as of 2008).
The 21st stage was based on a spectacular stage from 1949 and led over the Colle della Maddalena , Col de Vars , Col d'Izoard , Col de Montgenèvre and Colle del Sestriere from Cuneo to Pinerolo .
