The 4th Giro d'Italia took place from May 19 to June 2, 1912 and was held in nine stages over 2,436 kilometers, of which only eight were rated. At the end of the tour, all drivers of the fastest team received the pink jersey . There was no individual evaluation as in the previous events. The tour started in Milan and ended in Bergamo .

During the fourth stage from Pescara to Rome , the first drivers strike in Giro history took place. Since a river overflowed its banks, the stage should be extended by 50 kilometers. The drivers protested and took the train to Rome.

The Italian team Atala with the drivers Luigi Ganna , who could already win the first edition of the Giros , Carlo Galetti , who won in 1910 and 1911 , Giovanni Michelotto and Eberardo Pavesi won the overall classification in front of the Peugeot team, consisting of Ugo Agostoni , Domenico Allasia , Carlo Durando and Angelo Gremo , and the Gerbi team, consisting of Pierino Albini , Lauro Bordin , Giovanni Gerbi and Giovanni Rossignoli .
