Route of the Giro

The 12th Giro d'Italia took place from May 10th to June 1st, 1924.

The bike race consisted of 12 stages with a total length of 3,613 kilometers. Of 90 participants, 30 reached the goal. Giuseppe Enrici won the Giro ahead of Federico Gay .

The cyclist Alfonsina Strada , who was the only woman ever to start this tour, attracted particular attention at this Giro . The organizers believed she was a man because she signed up with Strada, Alfonsin . Although it turned out that she was a woman before the start, she was allowed to start anyway. Although she fell out of the time limit after the eighth stage, the organizers let her go on as she was celebrated by the audience and made headlines in the newspapers. At the finish in Milan she was at least 20 hours faster than the official last one.
