The 37th Giro d'Italia was held in 22 sections and 4,337 kilometers from May 21 to June 13, 1954 and won by the Swiss Carlo Clerici . Of the 105 riders who started, 67 reached the finish in Milan . The last stage of this Giro was over 222 kilometers (as of 2008).

In his victory, Clerici benefited from a successful escape on the sixth stage, in which he got enough lead to defend his lead as a non-climber as far as Milan against the climbers on the difficult stages.
