The 6th Giro d'Italia took place from May 24th to June 7th, 1914 and was the last Giro before the First World War . The bike race consisted of 8 stages with a total length of 3,162 kilometers.
It was the first Giro in which the overall ranking was calculated based on time and not on points. Due to the extreme length of the route (5 of 8 stages were longer than 400 km) only 8 of 81 starters reached the finish. Alfonso Calzolari won the Giro ahead of Pierino Albini .
