Mountain classification (Giro d'Italia)
The mountain classification of the Giro d'Italia was held for the first time at the Giro d'Italia in 1933 . The driver who collects the most points during all stages wins. The points are awarded for placement on classified climbs during the stage.
The first winner was Alfredo Binda . The record winner is Gino Bartali with seven wins.
From 1974 to 2011, the climb of the Giro d'Italia, a green jersey was for the leader cycling jersey ( Maglia Verde ) awarded. In 2012, the color of this leadership jersey was replaced by azure , the Maglia Azzurra .
