Fredy Excelino González Martínez (born June 18, 1975 in Líbano ) is a Colombian racing cyclist .

Career

González was able to achieve his greatest successes on mountainous terrain. In 2001 and 2003 he won the mountain classification of the Giro d'Italia , the Maglia Verde . In 2001 he won the Trofeo dello Scalatore (German: Climbing Trophy) in Italy . He was also successful in the mountainous stage races in his home country: at the Clásico RCN , he won one stage in 2001 and two stages and the mountain classification in 2003. Between 1999 and 2011, he won a total of six stages in the Vuelta a Colombia country tour . However, he was tested positive for testosterone the day before his stage win in 2007 and banned from the Union Cycliste Internationale for two years from March 2008 .
