Matteo Rabottini (born August 14, 1987 in Pescara ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

career

Matteo Rabottini was Italian champion in the U23 road race in 2009 . In the 2010 season he won the ninth stage of the youngsters' stage race Giro Ciclistico d'Italia , in which he was tenth overall.

At the end of the 2010 season, Rabottini drove for the Italian ProTeam Lampre-Farnese Vini as a stagiaire and in 2011 received a contract with the Professional Continental Team Farnese Vini-Neri Sottoli and won a stage of the Tour of Turkey in his first year there . He then contested the Giro d'Italia and finished the race in 113th place.

Rabottini achieved his greatest success of his career up to then at the Giro d'Italia 2012 when he won the mountain finish of the 15th stage. Rabottini was after a breakaway attempt over 150 kilometers was overtaken shortly before the finish by Joaquim Rodríguez , who broke away from the group of favorites, but could defeat Rodríguez in the sprint. He finally finished 60th overall and won the mountain classification . In 2013 he finished 55th at the Giro d'Italia and in 2014 seventeenth.

On August 11, 2014, Rabottini tested positive for the doping agent EPO . Two days before the Burgos Tour , which he finished in fourth, he was subjected to an unannounced training check. Rabottini, who was in his country's provisional squad for the road world championships, was temporarily suspended by the UCI and banned for 21 months in May 2015.
