from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A stagiaire ( French , German  intern , English trainee ) is a racing cyclist who participates in road bike races as a guest rider on an international cycling team .

A UCI WorldTeam or UCI Professional Continental Team can contract up to three drivers as trainees to participate in races of the UCI Continental Circuits from August 1st of each year . These drivers must not have been a member of a team in these categories and require the approval of their national association and, if applicable, the national association of their UCI Continental team .

Under the same conditions, a UCI Continental Team or UCI Women's Team can also sign two drivers as trainees. In this case, however, these riders may not have previously been a member of a UCI Continental Team or UCI Women's Team and must belong to the U23 age group.

According to the rules of the Union Cycliste Internationale , the trainees are also considered drivers of their previous team during the time they are driving for the visiting team.
