Luis Alberto "Lucho" Herrera (born May 4, 1961 in Fusagasugá , Cundinamarca ) is a former Colombian cyclist .

Herrera was considered the best mountain climber of his generation and the pioneer of many of the following Colombian climbers. After he was initially particularly successful in races on the American continent, he started with a Colombian team, with which he spent his entire career, as a formal amateur in the Tour de France in 1984 and won the mountain stage to Alpe d'Huez as a soloist. His considerable deficits in the individual and team time trials prevented a better placement .

His greatest successes include two wins in the mountains and three stages in the Tour de France , in which he was also placed three times in the top ten of the overall standings, the overall victory of the Vuelta a España in 1987 and two overall victories at the Critérium du Dauphiné in 1988 and 1991. In his home country he also won three times at the Vuelta a Colombia and four times at the Clásico RCN .

After his career he was kidnapped together with the cyclist Oliverio Rincón , but was released unharmed.
