Álvaro Pino Counago (born August 17, 1956 in Ponteareas , Spain ) is a former Spanish cyclist and sports director .

Career

His professional career lasted from 1981 to 1991. As a good mountain rider, he won the Vuelta a España in 1986 . In 1988 he won the mountain classification of the Tour of Spain. He had five starts at the Tour de France , his best result in the overall classification was 8th in 1985 and 1988 . In his two starts at the Giro d'Italia , 18th place was the better result in 1983.

After his professional career, Álvaro Pino remained loyal to cycling and was the sporting director of the Kelme , Phonak Cycling Team and Karpin-Galicia teams .
