His origins near the Sierra de Guadarrama predestined Julián Berrendero to be a mountain specialist. He celebrated his greatest successes at the Vuelta . He won this tour in 1941 and 1942 . In 1945 and 1946 he came in second. In total, he won 11 Vuelta stages. In 1942 and 1945 he won the Vuelta mountain classification. There is also a 4th and a 6th place in the overall ranking. As early as 1936, in his second year as a professional, he took part in the Tour de France for the first time and immediately won the mountain classification and 11th place overall. In 1937 he was even able to win a Tour de France stage and finished 15th in the overall standings. Numerous victories in regional tours and one-day races in Spain round off his track record, which would certainly have been even bigger without the Second World War . In his career from 1935 to 1949, Julián Berrendero also won the Spanish championship three times on the road and twice in cross-country skiing .
