Christophe Rinero (born December 29, 1973 in Moissac , France ) is a former French cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1994 Christophe Rinero was vice military world champion in road racing ; the following year he signed a contract with Team Force Sud , and from 1997 he drove with Team Cofidis . He started seven times in the Tour de France ; his best placement was fourth in the overall standings in 1998 , and he also won the dotted jersey as the winner of the mountain classification . It was later speculated that Rinero was actually the "virtual winner" of this tour, as the three athletes who stood on the podium - Marco Pantani , Jan Ullrich and Bobby Julich - had been proven doping with EPO .

In February 2000, Christophe Rinero injured his knee during the Mediterranean Tour and was unable to build on his previous performance. At the end of the 2008 season he ended his sporting career.
