Team evaluation | Belgium |
The 29th Tour de France started on July 4, 1935 in Paris and reached the French capital again on July 28, after 4,338 km. 93 racing drivers took part in the tour, 46 of which were classified.
The route took the 93 participants clockwise through France on 21 stages. After there had been an individual time trial for the first time last year , the tour management decided to hold individual and team time trials on three half-stages.
Race course
Romain Maes from Belgium won the first stage of the tour and never gave up his lead in the overall standings. He reached an average speed of 30.650 km / h.
On the 229 km long royal stage from Aix-les-Bains to Grenoble over the Col du Télégraphe , the Col du Galibier and the Lautaret , Antonin Magne , who had been in second place in the overall standings, had to retire after a fall. On the way down from the Galibier, the Spaniard Francisco Cepeda fell so badly that he succumbed to his injuries three days later. He was the first person killed by the Tour de France during a day of racing. ( The French racing driver Adolphe Hélière drowned as early as 1910 during a day of rest on the Côte d'Azur.)
In the 33 km time trial at La Rochelle , Frenchman Jean Fontenay was the fastest. For unauthorized slipstream driving behind a car, however, the stage win was revoked and he received a time penalty of five minutes.
The team classification was won by the Belgian team, and the mountain classification went to a Belgian with Félicien Vervaecke .
