The 16th Tour de France took place from June 25th to July 23rd, 1922. The drivers covered 5373 km on 15 stages. Of the 120 drivers who started, 38 were scored at the finish line. The Belgian Firmin Lambot won the tour with an average speed of 24.202 km / h.
Race course
The tour started in Paris and was counter-clockwise. The finish line was in Prinzenpark in Paris .
Frenchman Jean Alavoine was able to win all three stages in the Pyrenees and slip into the yellow jersey , which he lost again in the Alps.
Belgian Hector Heusghem took over the Alavoine jersey but only wore it for one day. Since he changed his bike after an accident, which was not allowed at the time, he got a time penalty of one hour and Firmin Lambot was able to take the lead in the overall standings. At the age of 36, the Belgian was able to defend the jersey as far as Paris and win the tour for the second time after the Tour de France in 1919 . This makes Lambot the oldest tour winner of all time and the first to win the tour without a stage win of his own.
