Race course
The overall winner was not determined based on the driving time, but according to a point system that seemed complicated. Timekeeping was considered too difficult for each individual driver. First of all, the drivers received points based on their placement on the stage. In addition, there was one penalty point each for a gap of full 5 minutes to the driver immediately in front in the stage classification, but no more than ten penalty points in total. Finally, the penalty points of the drivers placed in front in the stage classification were added as additional penalty points. For example, the following points were awarded to the first seven drivers on stage 1:

The unofficial winning time of Louis Trousselier was 109: 55: 39 h.
The number of stages has been increased from six to eleven and the number of rest days has been reduced. For the first time the tour led into the mountains. In the second stage, the riders had to overcome the Ballon d'Alsace in the Vosges . In the fourth stage, the western foothills of the Alps were passed (Côte de Laffrey, Col Bayard).
During the tour, all drivers (except for Jean-Baptiste Dortignacq ) were victims of sabotage. In protest against the tour, demonstrators scattered a total of 125 kg of nails on the road, which destroyed the drivers' tires. In contrast to the previous year, however, there were no physical attacks on the drivers.
