Vuelta a España 1985

The 40th Vuelta a España was held in 20 sections and 3474 kilometers from April 23 to May 12, 1985 . Overall winner was the Spaniard Pedro Delgado , the mountain classification won José Luis Laguía , the points classification won Sean Kelly . Ronny Van Holen won the Meta Volantes classification , Jesús Suárez Cuevas in the Sprint Especiales classification , Fabio Parra in the junior classification and the ZOR-BH in the team classification .

At the start of the penultimate stage, the eventual winner Delgado was still six minutes behind the Scottish climber Robert Millar . Delgado attacked together with the strong rouleur José Recio . Millar's Peugeot team hesitated to pursue it and the captain de la route Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle declined the offer of help from Italian teams. Recio won the stage and Delgado took the overall lead.
