Cangas de Onís is a place in the east of the Spanish province of Asturias . It is the capital of the municipality of the same name and is located in the valley of the Sella and Güeña rivers . Cangas de Onis was the seat of the rulers of the Kingdom of Asturias until 774 . Over 7000 hectares of the area belong to the Picos de Europa National Park . The pilgrimage site of Covadonga also belongs to the community of Cangas de Onís .
