The Asturias Airport ( Spanish Aeropuerto de Asturias ) is an international commercial airport on the Costa Verde in the province of Asturias in northern Spain .
The airport was inaugurated on June 11, 1968 as a replacement for the old La Morgal military airfield , which for technical reasons was not suitable for scheduled services.
Location and transport links
The airport is located directly on the Bay of Biscay nine kilometers west of the city of Avilés in the Castrillón area in the Santiago del Monte municipality. The capital of Asturias Oviedo is around 27 kilometers away.
