The Burgos Airport ( Spanish Aeropuerto de Burgos ; IATA Code : RGS , ICAO code : LEBG ) is a Spanish airport seven kilometers east of the city of Burgos .

history

The airport originally dates from the first half of the 20th century when an airfield was created near the city of Burgos and was used by recreational pilots. In the years that followed, there were repeated expansion measures. During the Spanish Civil War , Burgos was the headquarters of the National and the square was used for military purposes. Junkers Ju 52 / 3m of Kampfgruppe 88 (K / 88) of the German Condor Legion used as bombers during the air raid on Gernika started among others in Burgos.

In 1949 the airfield was taken over by the Spanish Air Force, which also significantly expanded and expanded the airport. In the 1990s, however, the base was about to be disbanded and so a conversion to a civil airport was negotiated. In 2000 this was a done deal and after the aprons had been adapted, flight operations systems had been built and a passenger building had been built, the airport was turned over to civil aviation on July 3, 2008. The operator is the state Aena .

In 2018, only 10,341 passengers were handled at the airport and 2,112 flight movements were handled.

Airlines and Destinations

At the airport, only the Iberia subsidiary Air Nostrum is active with flights to Barcelona-El Prat . Occasionally, charter flights to various destinations are handled at the airport. For example, TrawelFly was seen at Burgos Airport.
