The Cordoba Airport ( Spanish Aeropuerto de Córdoba ; IATA Code : ODB , ICAO code : LEBA ) is a commercial airport in the province of Cordoba ( Spain ) to the south of the Iberian Peninsula . It is located about seven kilometers southwest of the city of Córdoba in the Andalusia region .
history
Today's airport is the second after the Aeródromo de Turruñuelos , whose origins can be traced back to 1910, when a Fiesta de la Aviación was celebrated in May of this year . It was west of the city on the road to Casilla del Aire, but continuous flight operations did not begin until the 1930s. The airfield was used for military purposes during the Spanish Civil War , including by the German Condor Legion .
Construction of today's airport began in the 1950s and was inaugurated on May 25, 1958. However, Aviaco did not take up the first flight connection to Madrid until November of that year. Initially, the De Havilland DH.114 Heron was used, which was later replaced by the Douglas DC-3 . The economic success of the alliance remained modest. The Fokker F-27 and de Havilland Twin Otter were later used before the line was discontinued in 1980.
In the same year, an expansion of the terminal began and in 1995 the runways and apron areas were expanded. Air Condal served Palma de Mallorca on a weekly basis during these years . Since 2002 there were plans to almost double the runway to a length of 2500.
meaning
Since April 2014 there have been no regular flight connections from Córdoba airport; in 2013 the number of passengers was only 6,956. Alternatives for air travelers exist in the airports of Málaga and Seville , each 140 km away ; the approximately 210 km away Granada-Jaén airport is also an alternative. The airport is also competing with the high-speed rail traffic, which has expanded significantly in recent years (travel times from / to Córdoba: Seville: 45 minutes, Málaga 50 minutes, Madrid 1h45).
